Festive Walton Style Guide: A touch of glitter

We couldn’t do our Walton Style Guides in December without focusing one of them on the most festive decorations around, a touch of glitter. Whether your taste is rock n roll or more sugar plum fairy, there’s always a place for some extra glitz. “25 Beautiful Homes” magazine recently interviewed Lucy St George of well known interiors emporium Rockett St George, one of the things she noted about herself was that she had a magpie like attraction to sparkle as they scoured the world for treasures to sell. So, taking inspiration from Lucy’s love of sparkle and luxury, we put together a few of our favourite festive glitter design features.

Let’s start first of all with possibly the most festive focal point in the house, the Christmas tree. Putting up the tree each year might be the one annual opportunity you get to let your creativity run wild, so make sure your tree really pops! We love adding glitter baubles to contrast with the dark pine, you can find them in any number of colours and designs and they are sure to be an absolute hit with the kids. Stick to one of two colours for a more classic, traditional look or let our your inner child and scatter your tree with all colours of the rainbow for a playful and child friendly theme.

Where else can you add a little glitter? We love the idea of bringing some extra glitz and glamour right to the heart of Christmas day with the Christmas dinner. You’ve got dressed up for the occasion s why not dress your table as well? From sparkling table runners to shimmering candles and glitter covered place mats there are a million ways to go about it. Your guests will love the attention to detail and it will guarantee an impressive spread once the food and drinks are served.

Finally, no Christmas decoration is complete without a few fairy lights to make your glitter dance and shimmer throughout the room. The key with lighting is to use only what is needed to set the atmosphere. Use them in small concentrated areas where you want to draw the eye to, such as over the fireplace. For extra Christmas sparkle, opt for fairy lights with a twinkle setting to give a starry effect just as real glitter does too.

Christmas is the one time of the year where your home becomes just a little more magical, and what is magic without sparkle? Keep an eye out for more Festive Walton Style Guides in the run up to the 25th!
